The Healthy Arizona Act invests in existing, proven programs that strengthen local food systems, support Arizona farmers, and improve health outcomes, all while lowering long-term costs for taxpayers.
How Will the Healthy Arizona Act Work?
The Healthy Arizona Act will create sustainable revenue to support proven programs that make Arizonans Healthier.
It establishes a small, optional luxury tax of $0.02 per ounce on distributors of sugar-sweetened beverages. This includes manufacturers and wholesale distributors who produce, store, bottle, or distribute these products in Arizona.
- The tax is not applied directly to consumers or retailers.
- The Arizona Department of Revenue (ADOR) administers and oversees the program for accountability and transparency.
- Distributors obtain permits and report revenues, similar to existing alcohol luxury taxes.
- Funds are distributed to state programs as defined by law and guided by community input.
